A little paradise for dragonfly-enthusiasts. It is a lake at nearly 2000 meters above sea level, laying just a few hundred meters from the state border (Colle della Maddalena; Col de Larche in French) on the Italian side (highest part of Stura di Demonte valley). It is close to national road n. 21 and thus easy to reach but of course this draws many tourist and anglers (with annual fish stockings). This is a quite large lake, featuring a high density of water vegetation, mainly on the north-western side. This kind of biotope is very rare in the Cuneo region.

Among Zygoptera, you can find here mainly Enallagma cyathigerum, but in the last years data of Pyrrhosoma nymphula have been recorded as well. Among Anisoptera, the mostly observed species is Aeshna juncea, in flight for the greatest part of the short summer season. This lake is the only known station of Cordulia aenea in our region and one of the only three places where you can observe, early in the season, Libellula quadrimaculata. Another rarity in the area is Sympetrum flaveolum. You can observe commoner species too, such as Sympetrum fonscolombii, mainly during migration – see Literature.
