In the upper part of the “Langhe”, a few kilometers from Ceva, there is a little plateau between the villages of Montezemolo, Camerana and Saliceto. In these wooded hills originate the Belbo creek, meandering for some kilometers among wetlands. Suddenly the valley plunges and the creek streams for some kilometers in a tight valley enclosed by rough and unstable tufa reliefs where it grows thanks to the intake of several tributaries as far as the San Benedetto Belbo municipality. This part features a great water speed variability and has a torrential regime. During the summer the creek turns into a sequence of pools, apparently stagnant, but water flows underground beneath them. In this habitat breed various species of Odonata: among them two species rare for this region and localized here: Onychogomphus uncatus and Somatochlora meridionalis.
